The Case Studies described below are based on information provided by companies in the Food, Beverages & Tobacco sector. Each study has been written in collaboration with employees of the company and Preactor International would like to thank those who provided these insights into how Preactor is used and the benefits it has provided.

Nicholl Food Packaging Ltd UK (NFP) is the head office of the successful Nicholl Group, a leading manufacturer of aluminium foil containers predominantly used by the food industry.
 
Chocoladewerken Gudrun is based in Lier, Belgium although they originally started as a family business in the nearby village of Wommelgem. Gudrun is now one of the most well known producers of premium chocolates along with other companies such as Godiva, the market leader, in the “pralines” and truffles market.
 
Solanum is one of the UK’s premier suppliers of potatoes with a reputation gained by providing quality and value for more than 60 years. A division of the £240m turnover ProduceWorld Group, Solanum is based in Sutton Bridge at the former headquarters of the Potato Marketing Board and supplies 57,000 tonnes of potatoes each year to the major UK high street retailers. When the company decided to completely review and overhaul its entire approach to production planning and scheduling, it did so with the help of Preactor.
 
Highland Spring is the leading UK produced brand and number one spring water. It is the number two overall brand in the bottled water sector in Britain; number one sparkling water brand and the leading kids’ bottled water. Working on a 24x7 basis, at maximum output this equates to up to 90,000 bottles per hour which in 2006 meant that the company bottled around 240 million litres of water.
 
Oberto Sausage Company is a family owned business that offers a complete portfolio of meat snacks (such as jerky and sausage sticks), refrigerated sausage and deli products for 89 years.
 
Ardo UK Limited, has been a Kent based subsidiary of the Ardo Group since 1994 and supplies high quality frozen fruit and vegetables to over 400 key customers in the Retail and Food Services sector including Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons, Whitbread, Wetherspoons, and Aldi.
 
Hitchen Foods, based in Wigan, supplies a comprehensive range of added value vegetables and salad based products to the major multiple retailers and food service sector. First established in 1945, Hitchen Foods now prepares over 100,000 meals a day, created to exacting recipes developed by the company’s own top chefs.
 
Linc’s Cuisine (Sutton Bridge), part of the Geest Group, was established on the site of an existing industrial complex in Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire. This complex was largely demolished to make way for the current facility. The site opened in January 1999 and has been in constant production since then, currently employing around 200 staff.
 
Tilmanstone Salads, part of the Geest Group, is a specialist producer of value added packed salads. Fresh salad produce is supplied to the company from accredited growers in both the UK and Continental Europe.
 
Yorkshire Fresh Salads, part of the market leading Geest Group, is a specialist producer of packed salad and vegetable products, supplying to household name stores such as Asda.
 
Bourne Salads is a specialist producer of packed salad and vegetable products for a range of prestigious customers including Tesco, Safeway and Whitbread. With an annual turnover of £60 million and a workforce of up to 500 people, it is the largest site of parent group Geest. In a peak week, Bourne outputs 2 million bags of packed leaf products which equates to processing approximately 78 tonnes of raw product, supplied by up to 70 vehicles each day. With varying orders arriving on a daily basis to deliver the next-day it is clearly a sizeable operation and one which requires state-of-the-art planning and scheduling. This is why Bourne Salads relies completely on Preactor as the heart of its planning and scheduling.
 
An independent family brewery founded in 1777 has joined the 21st century with a vengeance by integrating a Preactor FCS into its bottling and canning operation. The result has been improved efficiencies, with cleaning and product turnaround times being scheduled with increased accuracy. Hall & Woodhouse is located in Blandford Forum, Dorset, UK, where it brews beer and manufactures soft drinks.
 
A Preactor 300 FCS tool is now helping LSG Sky Chefs UK Limited prepare up to 100,000 airline meals per week. Focused on the meal assembly area, Preactor is estimated to have achieved measurable productivity improvements of up to 15% when compared with previous performance levels.
